I am posting 2 news items that I hope my meager readership will consider together. One is about the amount of money Americans spend on Halloween decorations, and the other is about how we get those decorations. One is about a country in the grip of what seems like a deep economic slump with high unemployment and serious income inequality, and the other is about human tragedy propping up the largest economy in the world, and how very different inequality and oppression looks from that end of the supply chain.
